What is a search engine? A search engine is a computer program designed to search for documents on the world wide web. There are many different types, different ones designed to search for different things. The ones most familiar ones like Google or Bing use software called, "web crawlers" to scan the world wide web and bring back documents called, "web pages." Search engines have become very sophisticated and can analyze a web page and determine what the page is "about" using complex mathematical calculations called algorithms. There is almost no human interaction at this stage. The reason for the ever progressing complexity of these programs is to provide the search engine customers, end users and advertisers, with the best quality information possible when returning search results. Another way to think about search engines is to think of them as big electronic telephone books. But this telephone book is not arranged in alphabetical order. Nor is it separated into white and yellow pages. What's more, millions and millions of web pages about the same topic have a myriad of different titles. So how do they know what each page is about? This telephone book uses words you type in to a search box to find web pages containing that word and topic.
What Is A Search Engine Keyword???By identifying the most important words in various parts of a web page, the search engine can tell what the topic is about.A database is kept of these words. These words have become known as "keywords." Keywords in a web page tell the search engine what the page is about . Keywords the user types in tells the search engines which pages to retrieve. When a user types in a search request at a search engine, the important words that give meaning to the request (Keywords) return all the web pages that contain the keyword(s) typed in. Many times these results, called "hits," can number in the tens of millions and more. Each web page that is returned for the user's request is ranked from 1 to the last one. The search engine's algorithm determines relevancy, authority and content quantity among other factors to determine a page's rank.
