List Building:

Provide Value And People Give You Permission To Market To Them

List building can be defined as a process of collecting personal information and email addresses(at a minimum) for use in future marketing(usually opt-in email) campaigns.

The beginning of that process is to provide 'content' or some type of value for your target audience. Your immediate goal with this content is to develop your brand and create a professional internet presence.

To further entice your audience to "opt in" you need to give them something in exchange for them leaving their email address and personal contact information. Usually this is something free like a free report or and e-book.

Once someone has opted in, you have a valuable asset. Don't blow it by "selling" them or "pitching" them too soon. You'll have people opting out so fast...

Always be giving value when you communicate. Even when recommending the products or services that make you money. Over time, your list will grow and so will your income.

Why List Building is so important . . .

In short, it gives you tremendous leverage. By that I mean it gives you a way to share your message and the value of your knowledge and expertise with a large number of people who are already interested rather than trying to market to individual prospects one at a time.

This is why you see businesses advertising on radio, television, newspapers and such. It's because they are trying to reach an audience.

You as an internet marketer trying to drive targeted website traffic and to monetize that traffic, need an audience too. Using the internet, you can begin attracting an audience right from the start and you can do it much more economically than offline methods with list building.
