Buy website traffic? Me? Never again. I'll tell you why.

Some time ago I found out that you could actually purchase traffic for your website. I thought, "Great! This must be how everyone is making money on the net!"

Well, knowing what I know now, I couldn't have been more wrong! Not only did I not make any sales from all of these thousands of so-called "visitors", I wasted a lot of time sitting there with my fingers crossed while I could have been using that time to learn how to drive targeted traffic to my site the right way.

Question: If someone else is getting so much traffic that they are willing to sell it to you for a few dollars per thousand, why not capitalize on that traffic themselves? The answer is they can't. The traffic they are generating is not the kind of traffic that you are looking for nor is it traffic they would use for their own sites. Why?

Because it's not really "targeted" traffic. I know that some of these merchants have two different price structures, one price for just general traffic and a higher price for 'targeted' traffic. But how can it be targeted traffic if the visitors have no idea who you are, what you are offering and why they ended up at your site! So the merchant calls them 'targeted' since they somehow indicated an interest in a general category.

The truth is, there just isn't a more targeted visitor than one who was actively searching for something related to what you offer. They went to a search engine, typed in certain keywords which correlated to a keyword focused content page in your website and then clicked on your site after reading your description. That, my friend, is a targeted visitor and you cannot buy website traffic of that quality at any price.

Another reason I will not buy website traffic is due to the damage to my rankings in the top search engines. How can this kind of traffic hurt your site rankings?

You will have thousands of visitors who are completely uninterested in what you offer and they will be clicking off of your site within seconds. Search engines add all of this in when evaluating your site's overall popularity. That will hurt your site's ranking in the long run.

The lure of cheap quick and easy is almost always to good to be true.

Before you buy website traffic do your due diligence.

My recommendation is to learn how to produce your own free targeted traffic through search engines and viral marketing techniques. You will then own your own future and your own business.
